If you are looking for a blender to help you lead a healthier lifestyle by preparing more foods from scratch at home, get ready to spend some money! The top two recommended blenders are the Vitamix 5200 and the Blendtec Designer 625. What you have to remember when making this purchase is the blender will pay for itself if you use it to help you eat better and do more than make margaritas 🙂
You may wonder how I decided Vitamix blenders and Blendtec blenders were the best. I did not. However numerous organizations such as Consumer Reports, Serious Eats, CNET, bestblender.com, & perfectsmoothie.com to name a few, have put these blenders through numerous, rigorous tests repeatedly. They were tested for things such as durability, noise, ability to crush ice, ability to puree soups, ease of use and storage, ease and time of cleaning, safety, juicing, making nut butters, dough, whipped cream, and smoothies with seeds and fibrous vegetables. I’m comfortable with those testing variables. I will break each one down, tell you what it can do, what people complain about and where you can buy one if you would like.
Vitamix 5200 Deluxe – complete Kitchen
The Vitamix 5200 is a C – Series blender, made of laser-cut, stainless-steel hammermill and cutting blades 3″ in diameter. The base is 20.5 X 8.75 X 7.25 and the blender weighs 10lbs 9oz, has a 6 foot cord and peaks at 2 horsepower. It has a radial cooling fan and thermal protection system. It comes in Black, Brushed Stainless and Red. To get everything I am going to name, you must buy the Deluxe – Complete Kitchen Version of the Vitamix 5200. Vitamix claims that all of their blenders can: make hot soups, baby food, Flours & Dough, Nut Butters, Frozen Desserts, Batters, Dressings and Sauces, Non-Dairy Milks, Smoothies and Juices, Dips and Spreads and can be used in Food Prep. Vitamix states that their blades have a simultaneous slicing and pulverizing action to reduce whole foods to a puree quickly.
In addition to the blender base, this package includes one 64oz Standard Containers for large batches of food, one 32oz Container for smaller or individual servings and a Cookbook, DVD, & Getting Started Guide. It also includes a 32oz Dry Grains container for making fresh flour and dough and a Whole Grains Cookbook. Both a Classic Tamper and a Mini Tamper are included as well as four Flexible Cutting Boards and a Three Piece Spatula Set.
It has ten variable speeds so that you can control the texture of your ingredients. The container is dishwasher safe or self cleaning. The Vitamix comes with a seven year full coverage warranty including free two-way shipping.
The main complaint with the Vitamix is noise, noise, noise and let down. People who were first time Vitamix owners or had not upgraded in twenty years were very unhappy with the noise level. There were also a lot of people who I feel may have hyped a blender up in their mind to be something magical. They got the blender and it worked but it just wasn’t fantastic enough. Vitamix has a new Ascent Series and I recommend them over this blender. They will cost you less and have the newest technology. With this blender you do not have the low profile container, which is fine because you can purchase one, if you want to spend over $100 more. Check out the A2500, A2300 and maybe the A3500, depending on your budget and how much you intend to use this blender.

blendtec designer 625
The Blendtec 625 come with a Blending 101 Quick-Start Guide & Recipes, a molded base, which including container, is 7″ Wide X 15.5″ Tall X 9.25″ Deep, The Wildside Container which is BPA-free and has a vented Gripper lid. According to Blendtec, the Wildside Container pulls ingredients toward the blade because of its square design, the ingredients go up the sides and back down to the blade. In a round container the ingredients just spin around. They also state that their blades are 80% thicker and ten times stronger than other blenders, which allows them to be blunt, not sharp. The blade spins at over three hundred miles an hour and pulverizes ingredients rather than chipping away at them. The dull blades also allow for safer cleaning.
It comes in 7 colors: Black, Pomegranate, Chartreuse, Sea Foam, Orchid, Slate Grey, and Polar White. It has 3.0 Peak horsepower, illuminated display indicates remaining blending time, 6 speed capacitive touch interface with touch slider plus pulse, preprogrammed cycles: Smoothies, Ice Cream, Whole Juices, & Hot Soup. Intuitive touch screen with easy to see icons, lights with one touch and turns off automatically. The base has a flat face making it easy to clean. Slide your finger left or right to control the motor speed and the consistency of foods. Use pulse for added power burst at any speed.
For nuts and seeds as well as bread dough and hummus you can purchase a Twister Jar with Patented Twister Lid and a Mini Gripper Lid for thinner blends and it comes with a Spectacula Spatula which they say will scrape every drop out of the container. There is an eight year warranty on the blender and if the purchase the Twister Jar it will have a three year warranty.
The common complaints were noise, that it didn’t pulverize all seeds and a rubber gasket on the container which they call a “jar” wearing out.
Good news on one of these. Customer Service after replacing one customers “jar” three times with absolutely no issue, suggested the man should turn the shaft after the blender has been sitting for a while because the rubber gasket around the shaft can begin to wear, then the blade begins to wobble and destroys the rubber. I do not own one of these machines, but I think I am picturing this properly in my head. After this suggestion, there were no further issues.
I like this blender, but I would recommend looking at the Designer675 and Designer725 as well. Personally, I think I would want an Ascent2500 or 3300 if I were buying a Vitamix and a Designer675 if I were purchasing a Blendtec.

I hope all of this information has been helpful to you. There are tons of opinions out there about which blender is the best. Like I said, remember what you will be using the blender for because buying a five hundred dollar blender just for smoothies and margaritas will not be a good investment. However, if you can see yourself making use of all the features on these blenders, I believe these are the top two brands. There are other, cheaper models made by the same companies that I believe would do the job, but I don’t own one so I can’t promise. I have a blender, a juicer, a food processor, a mixer, a coffee grinder, and a salad shooter. Boy, I sure do wish I had one machine that did it all sometimes. My entire spare room is filled with kitchen and camping equipment. Not even kidding, wish I was.
Which blender would you recommend? Do you own one of these brands? Do you own another brand that you feel works just as well as one of these brands? Please leave me a comment! I love to hear from you guys and I could use the help with the blenders.
Until next time, be kind to one another!
